For a french knot you never go back into the same hole you came through from, or else you will find you end up pulling your "knot" through to the back side of the work!
Instead you make sure you go back down adjacent to the hole you came up from. My definition of "adjacent" depends on the fabric you are using. If you are stitching on linen, you can go back down the hole next to the one you came up. If stitching on Aida, you split the canvas like you would for a quarter stitch. Hope that helps.

Ive been looking at a number of Utube demos for french knot and NONE say if the needle goes BACK into the SAME hole as it came out of OR if it does NOT go back into the same hole. I cant see from any of the demos if it is going back into the SAME HOLE or NOT????? Please Explain...thanks :)

You make it look so easy. I have been cross stitching for 15 years and french knots are the bane of my existence.
